an Asia that you won't be reading about in the guide books...

<< Indonesia                               Along The Puncak

The Istana Cipanas dates back to the mid 18th Century and was favoured by Sukarno

The Kebun Raya, Cibodas is the equal of it's more famous cousin in Bogor but much quieter

The waterfall is a comfortable stroll in the gardens down a steep hill and more accessible than one in the Penang Botanical Gardens

The lake just in front of the Gardens' guest house Wisma Tamu is a sight for sore eyes for city folk taking a breather

Useful Puncak Info

Avoid weekends unless your idea of fun is crawling along at a slower than snails pass in a queue of Kijang assailed by vendors of shite all the time. During the week use buses from Bogor to Bandung or vv. If you're coming from Bogor then you can use the buses or break your journey by getting an angkot to Cisuara for Taman Safari.

If you're heading to Cibodas, and why wouldn't you? It's much quieter there, ask the bus driver to let you off at Kebun Raya turn off then jump in a yellow angkot going up the pot holed hill. Stay to the end. Freddie's Homestay is a short walk back down the hill from the entrance to the gardens. Access to the Gunung Gede National Park was closed when I was there, they said from January to March it's closed.

Tea and a small lake form the vista from Rindu Alam restaurant, a strategically sited venue with stunning views popular with the weekend visitors. The food is ok.

Masjid Atta'awun, just down from the restaurant above, is another popular photo opportunity for Indonesian visitors.
