Traditionally in Java
people have operated by the 5 day
Pasaran week,
Pasar meaning market, this was based on traditonal rotating markets.
Each day was assumed to have certain characteristics in the same manner
that the zodiac does in the west and throughout Chinese communities.

But what the Javanese have done is to superimpose these two calendars so
we have a Super Calendar if you like or, in Javanese,
Wetonan,
which means to coincide.
